Introducing the people behind NHPBC

Pierce Corbett - Manager/Coach

Pierce is an enthusiastic, energetic individual with a passion for teaching pickleball and building pickleball communities and connections. A former multi-sport representative athlete, his proficiencies and interests are both diverse and wide ranging. In terms of racquet sports, Pierce is a former representative tennis player (region and country)/coach and participant in ITF pro tournaments.

His sport focus is now pickleball and is one of New Zealand’s most successful Open category performers, winning multiple national events and an extensive medal collection across all formats – singles, doubles and mixed.

In 2023, Pierce was IPTPA certified (Level 1 and Level 2) as an instructor under exigent conditions on Australia’s Gold Coast by the Master Teaching Professional of Asia Pacific.

Pierce is available for individual and group coaching requirements and is present at the centre daily for running and advising on prescribed sessions (when he isn’t being run off his feet by his 3 sporty youngsters).

He looks forward to growing the game further across all generations through the establishment of the club and forming new relationships with community stakeholders to promote and provide access to the sport.

Sara Aly - Assistant/Coach

Sara started her pickleball journey in 2018 coming from no sporting background at all. After a few years of rec play and becoming a pb addict she nervously started competing in tournaments.

The year she moved into the 60+ category she attended five national tournaments both in NZ and in Australia resulting in a dozen medals across gender doubles, mixed doubles, skinny singles and team events.

She has continued with tournament play this year but has also completed the Level 1 Referee Course with David Jay ( Head Coach in Australia), become IPTPA Level 1 certified  and helped to set up and coach at one of the new YMCA pickleball venues.

Her enthusiasm for the sport of pickleball and its community is self-evident and she is excited to be involved in the growth of the sport as well as coaching new players.

She looks forward to forming new affiliations with the community who will visit the venue and experience the sport she loves.
