What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is a fun sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net. Two or four players use solid paddles made of composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, over a net.

How can I try Pickleball?

It couldn’t be easier to have a go at Pickleball and discover for yourself just how much fun it is!

No special equipment is required and any comfortable clothing is fine. Trainers / tennis shoes are recommended.

Our Pickleball club is welcoming and friendly. Just contact NHPBC, call us up and make arrangements to join a session.

Where can I get equipment?

There are various online stores in NZ that stocks everything you need (paddles, balls, nets, bags, etc).  NHPBC can advise on appropriate equipment that suits your level and aspirations!

What are the Health Benefits of Pickleball?

Pickleball is a sport for ALL ages and abilities!  Intergenerational play or play within similar age/skill groups.

There are many benefits of pickleball:

Exercise Made Easy – Easier on the joints than most active sports; build fitness and build endurance.

Improved Flexibility, Balance and Muscle Strength 

Easy Game to Learn, Fun for all Ages Learn, play and have fun right away. No previous experience is necessary; it can be picked up really quickly!

Low Cost to Participate Inexpensive paddles can be purchased and at NHPBC pay to play and membership models aim to be cost effective.

Socially Inclusive Make new friends, build new relationships, develop playing groups.

Memory Development and Reactions Learning how to score, keeping score, learning strategies and techniques, concentration and focus are all facets to look forward to. Reaction time are sure to improve with increased play.
